John's Ribbon Shirt

One of the main reasons I started sewing was because I wanted to make a ribbon shirt. Well, Years later....... here is the first one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OOOOOOH YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend John chose the fabric and we worked on the design together.

Silver indian head buttons look so good against the black.

I used an old McCall's 4530 men's western shirt pattern.

I am thrilled with how this came out!!!!!!!!!!!
The shirt really speaks for himself.
The ribbons are fabulous! It is difficult to enjoy their full luster in these photos. One of the ribbons is gold on one side and deep purple velvet on the other!

AHHH!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did thread painting on the gold fabric and then applied that with appliqué onto the cotton shirt fabric. This kind of work takes me a long time but it's well worth it!
I LOVE this shirt!!!!!!!!!!
And so does John!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The will of color loves how light spreads
through it's diffusions, making textures subtle,.......
Of what dream and work would bring."

  1. That shirt is fantastic and looks like a labor of love. Isn't it great when you can create a piece of art for others to wear and enjoy? I hope it provides inspiration for years to come.
